We are a young Dharma refuge in southwestern Wisconsin. Our roots are in the Theravada tradition of Buddhism and our model is Suan Mokkh, the monastery founded by Buddhadasa Bhikkhu in southern Thailand. We are dedicated to fostering a community of liberatory practice; providing a natural setting for personal meditation retreats; and living out a Buddhist ethics of ecological and social responsibility.
We moved to this 70 acre valley in Wisconsin's beautiful driftless region in 2006. Slowly, through volunteer labor and donations, we are building facilities for community and practice. This website contains Dhamma teachings (text & audio), study materials, calendars of teachings & events, local partners, pictures, building plans, and funding needs. Please explore the menu bar and recent Newsletter.
The garden is growing well & we'll be finishing up the barn soon. We're fashioning poles for the recently donated tipi and will also do some work on the cabin. The tent cabins await meditators. Santikaro is around working on these projects and a book.
