Since the last Guesthouse Update, progress has been rapid. Once the sheetrock folks had the walls painted (good enough for now, though really just primer), Brandon our floor guy was in quick and done in a flash. It took him a while longer to tile the showers because he did a wonderful job. With the floor down, the carpenters (Ross, Jordan, and Matt) were back to do the upstairs ceilings, install cabinets (made by Erwin), and do the trim work. They are careful and thoughtful as you will see below and in next update. Lightning and Isaiah began installing lights and outlets, too.
Next week: Roy is back to finish the plumbing (sinks, toilets, showers), major appliances will arrive, and Lightning and the HVAC guys will finish up, too.
Furnishings such as beds and the all important zafus & zambutons are on their way. Jo Marie is lovingly assembling the finishing touches so that our guests will be both comfortable and inspired for practice. Outside we are in the midst of another thaw. Has Spring arrived too early?
Thanks to all of you who have made this possible. Before long we will post about signing up for retreat space. The hermitage remains beautiful, the canvas cabins made it through another winter, and now the guesthouse supports their contemplative use.
Some expenses remain — such as Spring landscaping, outdoor furniture, and The Mortgage — so anyone with spare change who is inspired to help with those will be welcomed. May this Dhamma refuge support us all in the current crazy times.
